Document Agent for Lawyers: Automatic Contract Triage with Data That Stays on Your Server
How the Document Agent reads contracts, extracts critical clauses, and prepares briefs for lawyers — with private deployment that ensures data compliance.
What is the Document Agent and how it operates
The Document Agent is an AI agent specialized in reading, analyzing, and classifying legal documents. Unlike generic AI tools, it was trained specifically for legal contract contexts: it understands common contract types, mandatory clauses per contract type, the most frequent abusive practices, and relevant deadlines.
Technical operation: the agent receives a document (PDF, DOCX, or scanned image), applies OCR when necessary, segments the text into clauses, classifies each clause by type and relevance, and generates a structured report. All within the firm's server — no data leaves to external APIs.
Workflow: before and after the Document Agent
Current flow (without agent): attorney receives contract by email, downloads the PDF, opens in reader, reads the entire document (30 to 60 minutes), manually notes critical clauses, checks deadlines in a separate spreadsheet, creates summary for partner or client. Total: 45 to 90 minutes per contract.
Flow with Document Agent: attorney forwards the contract to the system, waits 90 seconds, receives in the interface a report with: (1) executive summary in 5 points, (2) highlighted and explained critical clauses, (3) risk score with justification, (4) extracted deadlines already inserted in the calendar, (5) comparison with firm standard if available. The attorney reviews the report in 10 minutes and makes the legal decision. Total: 12 minutes per contract.
Security: what private deployment guarantees
Data isolation: each firm has its own model instance, with no data sharing between clients. Encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). Complete access log with record of who processed which document and when. Automatic backup with configurable retention. Compliant with data protection regulations for firms serving clients in regulated sectors (financial, healthcare, government).
